snorting urls

With dialup, it is near impossible to download more than 3
megs without a download manager (I use
freedownloadmanager.org, large files schedule when sleeping.).
The insane thing is I can get 100 plus megs in a night. But
the random hangups all isps do, make more than 3 megs not able
to pull with a phone modem without aid of a good downloadmanager.

Yet, many sites (dragon naturally speaking. dotnetframework)
that are commercial choose to hide the real urls of rather
large files, usually with active x and IE. So, I try logging
and forcing through proxy...No luck. Tried packet sniffer,
but need url not just IP.

Ideas?
